Westshore Montessori School

As the west side’s premier Montessori preschool, specializing in early childhood development, Westshore Montessori understands the importance of a strong educational foundation. Lifelong learning skills, character development and independent thinking are the ABC’s of our program.

Multi-age groupings are the basis of the Montessori Method: younger children learn from older children, and older children reinforce their mastery of previously learned concepts by teaching younger children. This arrangement also imitates the real world where adults work and socialize with people of all ages and dispositions.

“Imagine a place where your child is always greeted warmly and made to feel welcome with a parent-communication experience that keeps you informed and confident that your child has fallen in love with learning.”

Mission & Values

The mission of Westshore Montessori School is to provide an authentic Montessori learning environment where every child may establish a lasting foundation for achieving their full potential in learning and in life.

An “authentic Montessori learning environment” is one that:

We value:

✅ working from where the child is

A Little About Our Programs

Parent/Infant Program Ages Birth to around 18 Months

Welcome to our Parent/Infant Program, where the Montessori method meets the early stages of your child’s development. Founded by Dr. Maria Montessori, this approach emphasizes a child-centered learning environment that fosters independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning. Our program, designed for infants from birth to around 18 months, offers a unique opportunity to bond with your child while supporting their growth in a nurturing, educational space.

Rooted in the principles of Montessori, our Parent/Infant Program respects the natural development of every child, offering an environment that promotes physical, emotional, and cognitive growth. Your infant will be encouraged to explore the world around them through carefully planned sensory activities and guided experiences, while you, as a parent, will gain invaluable knowledge to support their developmental journey.

Toddler (ages 18 months through 30 months)

The Toddler program environment is designed for the child aged 18 to 30 months who is ready to leave their parents for a short period of time. The child will have opportunities to master a variety of tasks, including: coordination, independence, sensorial discrimination, and respect for self and others in a social setting.

The focus of the program is on independence and building self-esteem. As a child matures and advances, presentations are given with Montessori materials as well as pre-reading, math, and sensorial activities. Every material must serve as a stimulus in the process of the development of the child. The Montessori Method is based on observation. The teacher observes, reflects, and analyses and then determines what materials are appropriate to stimulate a child’s fine motor and gross motor skills as well as develop his attention span.

Primary (ages 2.5 yrs to 6 years)

In Montessori classrooms, children of different ages learn together, usually spanning 3 years. Older children serve as role models and assist younger ones, fostering a sense of community. This setup allows older children to develop leadership skills and younger children to benefit from peer support. Friendships form based on interests rather than age.

Respect for oneself, for others, and for the environment is cultivated to guide children towards self-discipline. When adults treat children with respect, children learn to reciprocate that respect towards themselves and others.

The Montessori materials serve as a transition from familiar concepts to new ones, enabling children to progress gradually from concrete, experience-based learning to increasingly abstract thinking. Each material represents a single concept, such as texture, length, or quantity. The self-correcting design of these materials ensures that any errors made during their use are apparent to the child, without requiring intervention from the teacher.
